Addressing Injustice: A Call for Societal Rebuilding and Peaceful Development

I posted on my Facebook page on October 16, 2021, “Where there is no justice, there can be no peace. Where there is no peace, there can be no development. Where there is no development, there will be no employment. Where there is no employment, smaller and big thieves will multiply. Where the small and big thieves take over the streets, those shielding the big thieves and the rest of us can never sleep with our two eyes closed. Full cycle! So, head or tail, we shall all be victims.”

This was a deep post at that time. I expected good leaders to have given it a thought. It would seem no one cared. African leaders shield the bigger thieves and kill the smaller thieves in the name of justice. They put the smaller thieves in prison or cut their hands for stealing plantain, yam, cassava, etc.

Meanwhile, the smaller thieves can identify the bigger thieves parading the streets and shielded using the instrument of the state. Do you think there will be no reaction someday? Does this analogy describe or represent the situation in any country you know?

Do not relate this to the unfolding events in Niger Republic because Niger was not part of the equation in 2021 when I did that post. I hope we can begin a gradual rebuilding process that would address the sleeplessness of the downtrodden in our society. Failure to do that would mean what Shakespeare referred to as “murdering sleep,” and whoever murders sleep shall sleep no more.
