It is easy to counsel forgiveness and forget the wrong done to us. Unfortunately, deep, indelible scars could remain permanent and visible to the naked eye. Though the wound is no longer raw and the pains have disappeared, the ugly sight of the scarification process is a constant reminder of the painful sour memories.
For example, in our younger days, some of us were left with the scars of the smallpox immunization. We often wish there were better technologies to prevent such spots. That is precisely what uncomplimentary and caustic words make us feel. As humans, we might have forgiven and indeed forgotten, but because the scar lives with us, we cannot but remember what happened.
In every situation, there is an opportunity to push ugly events behind us. One way to deal with the unattractive sight of the smallpox scar is to think of those whose entire bodies are covered with spots or those not fortunate enough to be alive after the illness. Some lost their sight. Others lost their hearing. So, the person with multiple post-smallpox infection spots would always thank God to be counted among the living because it could have been worst. After all, the dead cannot see an ugly scarification mark. So, each time you see the scar of people’s wickedness on your body or in your environment, thank God because it could have been worse. Many passed through the same process that gave you those scars but didn’t survive them. Many reacted to the immunization and passed on. Remember that a dead person has no tomorrow on earth.
I do not know what scars you carry. But no matter how bad it is, so long as the sun and moon will sprout in their seasons, I pray for you and myself that the reason for keeping you for today shall manifest in your life, and your tomorrow shall be better than today. The good Lord who preserved you with a little scar will give you the weight and strength of an elephant to live happily in a situation you cannot change. The gift of living is grace. Live today happily because you cannot pass through September 5, 2022, again after today. Grace and peace!!!
