Capitol Hill Unveils Unprecedented Leadership Shift: Lessons from Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s Tenure
Speaker Kelvin Mccarthy, a Republican has set three records in the life of US democracy especially in the Capitol Hill.
First, he won his speakership after 15 ballots, which was unprecedented in the history of the US Congress.
Second, he became the second shortest tenured speaker in the Capitol hill. He was consumed by the angst of the far-right conservatives from within his Republican party. One of his ondoing was his election denier stance over Biden’s election.
Third, in his desperation, he conceded to a deal that would allow only five Republicans as being enough numbers to begin an impeachment proceefing of a House Speaker.
On January 4, 2023, I wrote in my post, “Allowing five Republicans the leverage to commence the removal of a Speaker, “Was a sword of damocles and the hangman’s noose hanging over Mccarthy’s neck. With this deal, the powers of the Speaker would have been seriously eroded and unlikely to hold sway the way Nancy Pelosi did.”
My postulation has again come to pass. Yesterday, Speaker Mccarthy was removed as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Capitol Hill.
The lesson for me are:
1. No Democrat or Rebublican attempted to steal or remove the mace while the debate raged.
2. It is honorable to remain on the side of truth.
3. We should not allow desperation veil our sense of judgment. We should be fair to others and yourself.
4. Do not bend the rules for the sake of taking advantage of others.
5. We should learn to effectively manage the rebels in our teams.
6. Leaders must allow institutions run according to the constitution, guidelines and procedures.
Grace and peace!!!
