When a Commissioner for Information of a State defending the Government’s strategies in combating insecurity gets kidnapped, the terrorists are simply saying; shut up, we are closer than you think. They are also saying, ‘stop saying we are not in control of some Local Government Areas of Nigeria.’ Truly, are the forests they are genuinely operating from in Niger or Cameroon Republics?
This scenario is playing out in Nasarawa State, where the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr. Yakubu Lawal, has become the latest high-profile Nigerian successfully kidnapped and whisked away into the kidnappers’ den. Most online publications say a hundred million Naira demand is being negotiated.
With these guys raking in multi-million Naira daily, which boosts their armor purchasing and recruitment power, how can they accept amnesty to lay down their arms? What options do we have now that we know the situation is not as rosy as the government would want us to believe?
I empathize with the families of all kidnapped victims in various states of Nigeria. I pray that they all return safely to their families. Also, may you reading this post not be a victim of kidnappers and their cohorts. Amen.
