Where is the place of resilience, ideology, accountability and responsible leadership in our polity?
I have read about several families, dating back to four generations supporting football teams across Europe. Those teams had their good, bad and worst times. For instance, it took Man City 44 years to win the Championship League. The sponsors, players, fans, coaches and staff never wavered. They kept hope alive. That is what it should be.
It took about 30 years for Liverpool to win the 2005 and 2019 Champions Leagues and three FA Cups. The sponsors, players, fans, coaches and staff also kept hope alive.
In politics, the Republicans lost majority seats to Democrats in the US November 2020 elections. Painful, but the Republicans are not cross carpeting en masse out of their party to the other side of the divide.
Not in our clime! I have lost count of politicians that have moved from the APC to the PDP and back to the APC since the advent of PMB administration. The reasons for this, I cannot fathom out! If this continued, how can we build a virile opposition necessary for the sustenance of our democracy?
According to Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, “Chief Femi Fani-Kayode of the PDP has joined our party in good faith. He’s joining our party to add his own positive energy and make contributions into ensuring that APC is a party to beat……..”
The above seems to have been countered by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode on his Instagram page – “Though we have had meetings across party lines, and we are in a season of political consultation, I have not left the PDP,”
Honestly, I don’t know who to believe now. Just wondering where the place of accountable and responsible leadership is in Nigeria.
Grace and peace!!!
