How come, in ordinary times, we quickly remember religion or tribe?

When a Muslim’s house or business is on fire, that person will not ask if the driver of the fire truck and the firefighters are Christians, Hausas, Fulanis, Igbos, or Yorubas. All that fellow wants to be salvaged is the house or the business.

Suppose a Christian was involved in an accident, and fire broke out almost engulfing the driver. In that case, the driver will not ask if the person axing his car door to open it is a Christian, Muslim, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, or Yoruba. All he wants is an angel to open the door and let him out.

If a Muslim’s house was under attack by an armed robber, when the police arrive on a rescue mission, the Muslim wouldn’t first ask if the Police Officer is a Christian, Muslim Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, or Yoruba. That person wants the officers to clear the robbers and keep the compound safe.

If there were an accident, the passengers could be a mix of Christians and Muslims. When the Federal Road Safety Commission comes for rescue, the conscious Christians won’t direct that only Christian Officers should touch them and vice versa.

When his HE Bola Tinubu, HE Atiku Abubakar, and HE. Peter Obi and others shall be canvassing for votes; they won’t restrict their appeals for support to only the people from their religions and tribes. They shall be appealing to the consciences of all, including the traditionalists. Interestingly, Christians will vote for Tinubu and Abubakar. They won’t tell INEC to remove the votes from those not belonging to their religions or tribes. Muslims will vote for Obi, he won’t ask INEC to count only his Christian votes and remove that of Muslims.

If we all need each other, how come, in ordinary times, we quickly remember religion or tribe that has divided and fragmented us so terribly, and use it to further divide us? Why do we have to cling to what reduced us from the tower of greatness to almost ground zero?

Folks! Time has come for us to come and reason together for the good of our country. Will 2023 be that magic year for the real change? Time shall tell.

Grace and peace!!!
