A system that hijacks its own electoral system using thugs can only produce several thugs working for themselves. These thugs will in turn hijack political power and turn the heat on the ruling class and the people. This is where we have found ourselves today.
Looking at the horizon, I am not too sure that politicians that will buy votes to be elected can take us out of the woods. The typical politician can improve the GDP. But the structural damage to the psyche of people, the ingrained criminality and defaced ethoes from corrupt electoral process is legendary.
Recently, a community youth organization changed its leadership. The new executive wanted to have an introductory interface with our company.
Their representatives met our staff on duty and said the agenda of the meeting would be introducing the new exco to us, levy collections, recruitment of community youths, etc. Great idea.
However, embedded in the visit would be to communicate to us that it would be mandatory for one of the executives to be the one to service our generator.
Wait for the shocker! They would also earn twenty thousand Naira as sitting allowance.
How many investors would continue to invest in that environment?
These guys are emboldened because they are the very foundation for electing politicians into power. For now, none of the typical politicians can clean up the country. Only a person outside the traditional political setting can.
