Jona! Jona!! Jona!!!. But why?

I do not have the facts to justify why GEJ decided to leave the PDP. Perhaps my love for the way he humbly walked away from the seat of power, which gave Nigeria’s democracy a boost, and my naivety, explain why I am curious and still shocked over his defection to the APC after people have bought forms and ready for the primaries.

Jona! Jona!! Jona!!!. But why? Is it true? I thought you were happy with the accolades and appointments of being an envy worldwide and that you have moved on beyond the Presidency of a country?

Why are you leaving the freedom square that gives you fresh air in your socio-political spaces to cohabit with those who had brought you down and hated you so much?

Have you forgotten that in the twilight of your administration, you said, ‘I am the most abused and insulted President in the world – you will remember the total freedom you had under me?’ To prove how much they vilified you, read the following sound bites and think again if you still want this new pollical attention.

Soyinka called you Nebuchadnezzar. He called your supporters morons. He said you brought back into the limelight more political reprobates than any other Head of State since the nation’s independence.

Nasir el-Rufai and Tinubu once told you to resign and go to Otueke because you could not rescue the Chibok girls. More people have been kidnapped in the Kaduna axis and are still in the forests with bandits or terrorists, yet el-Rufai refused to tell himself what he told you. At a point, Nasir also said you were leading Nigeria into war to extend your tenure. Lai Mohammed used you as his chewing stick every morning. He is still in the APC.

Obasanjo was so allergic to your person and your continued stay in Aso Rock to say ‘anything but Jonathan’ (ABJ)” Which means he would have chosen any insane person presented by any other party as President over you.

Though Fani-Kayode worked for you at the twilight of your Presidency, he once said that you were leaving a legacy of destruction and disaster behind you.

In case you do not know Your Excellency GEJ, Nasir el-Rufai. Lai Mohammed, Bola Tinubu are still active and very influential in the APC where you are headed. OBJ on his part has again clearly stated his preference for where the next President should come from. I am watching to see the reception they will organize to receive you the way of others.

Do you still want to continue receiving such insults when you can live your life fully without further stains, Your Excellency? I feel pained for many of your loyalists in the PDP, who were vilified and crucified for your sake. Some of them swam and sank with you. For these groups of people, how will anybody console them? Why have you abandoned them without any empathy?

What is it that the PDP did so badly to you to have warranted you to leave a group under which you became a Deputy Governor, Vice President, and President? This new light you have seen, is it from the South, East, North or West and when was it revealed to you, your Excellency?

I know there is no morality but a permanent interest in politics. However, politicians still weave around themselves the fabrics of integrity and ethics in some climes, which I thought you imbibed when you conceded to PMB in 2015.

Good luck to His Excellency, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in his new found home, the APC. For the PDP, they need to introspect, address what went wrong, heal the wounds and move on. Peace and Grace!!!
