FG to penalize foreign airlines for selling tickets to Nigerians in dollars. The practice is a breach of Nigeria’s laws, says Hon. Minister Aviation, Hadi Sirika. That is how to protect our people from the exploitative behaviors of capitalists. It makes sense that Nigerians should purchase tickets in Naira in Nigeria.
Foreign airlines pay their staff and purchase aviation fuel from wherever they come from in foreign currencies. Therefore, it would be unfair for planes to fuel and pay in dollars in Nigeria if that ever happened.
Given the above, the government must provide an enabling environment for foreign airlines to operate and repatriate their funds because the time value for money is crucial.
Suppose we do not seriously address the issues. In that case, it will damage our image internationally, further reduce our bankability, make life difficult for Nigerians traveling overseas, increase the cost of doing business, reduce foreign direct investments, reductions in diaspora remittances. It may affect official foreign travels and diplomatic channels. We cannot afford these complications at this time. A stitch in time, they say, shall save so many.
Grace and peace!!!
