In the world of serious corporate investments and businesses, investors cannot afford to helplessly watch their investments threatened, going down, and doing nothing. In Europe, Latin America, and Asia, the world of football is a serious business. For the above reasons, Referees, Video Assistant Referees, and Coaches are either suspended for errors committed during football matches or outrightly fired.
If you saw any team in top-flight football, their countries are either successful in business or political governance. For those countries, they have gone beyond bread-and-butter politics. As we watch English Premier League in Britain, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A, etc., our viewership through DSTV subscriptions boosts their economies.
Here, somebody steals hundreds of billions from our treasury; it takes decades to prosecute them. Meanwhile, when jailed, they spend two or three years and are granted a Presidential pardon because of political benefits to the ruling party. We have been in this circuit since 1999. These guys use our stolen funds also to oppress us. They use the security apparatus of government paid for by taxpayers’ money to provide security for looters. I cannot get it.
Prosperous nations are not different from us. The only difference is that corruption, shirking of responsibilities, sabotage, and lackadaisical services are visited with very hard sanctions. We can also make things work by simply getting compliant with our laws and being diligent in consequence management. Anything short of these is ‘Awada Kerikeri.’
