How can anyone play God to the extent of saying that Mr. A can never win an election in the North or Mr. B can never win elections in the South simply because they are not of their tribe or religion? Some even boast that they will go on exile if a particular candidate wins the Presidency.
There is nothing wrong in having political differences. But when elites who the masses look unto for leadership make such statements, they further polarise the people and send extremely dangerous signals. I don’t think that is what we need at this time.
When one hears some statements from few top echelons of the leading political parties, I ask, ‘are they really different from each other?’ Take the APC and PDP for instance. The culture dilution in their DNAs is so massive that I see them as two sides of the same coin.
When their children marry, they forget the toga of parties. They are there in their numbers to support each other. So, masses should stop being deceived. Let us look beyond their rhetorical gestures. Let us do it differently in 2023. Let performance and value systems of the candidates drive our motivations to vote for them. Not tribe. Not religion.
