Cleansing Nigeria: The Urgent Need for Leadership Accountability in the Fight Against Corruption
While I agree entirely with other well-meaning Nigerians that everybody must look inward to purge our system of corruption and criminality, the cleansing of this house called Nigeria must brutally start from the top, and the time to start is now!
With the above narrative in mind, I find it morally wrong when people argue that Nigerians are unjustly criticizing their leaders for our state of decadence and corruption without the followers taking responsibility for our society’s rot.
Some may argue that the leaders are doing their best and that the system needs to change. While this may be true to some extent, it doesn’t absolve the leaders of their responsibility to lead by example and fight against corruption.
As concerned citizens, it’s high time we demand accountability and transparency from our leaders. Let’s not just point fingers but take decisive action to bring about the change we want to see in our country. Only with an effective consequence management system will we not wallow in a sea of criminality and corruption with no end in sight!
Let Nigeria go the way of Japan and Singapore, or impose life imprisonment and seizures of properties associated with corruption practices today, and see where Nigeria will be in the next five years. The potential for change is within our grasp.
Grace and peace!!!
