Predictions of Pandemic Fallout: Assessing Nigeria’s Hunger Crisis Today

On March 12th, 2020, during the COVID-19 Pandemic I wrote on my Facebook page, “As at today, they are rushing to mop up dollars and stockpile food. A time will come when these measures will be ineffective because those hungry will brazenly enter your compound in their thousands looking for food. I am not a prophet of doom, but only discerning minds could see the dangers ahead.”

In the body of the post, I also euphemistically said, “Very soon, except we deploy bullion vans and escorts to ferry food instead of cash, there will be trouble in the land. Government should have known that there is a war. This is a war against hunger, and it is the most vicious of all wars. Things have started small. Can the authorities please reappraise the situation?

On April 13, 2020, I posted a warning about the consequences of hunger on my Facebook page. I averred, “Now is the time to use bullion vans and security to escort food.”

With what is happening in Nigeria, has anything changed between when I published the above two posts and now? Your opinion is as reasonable as mine.

Grace and peace!!!
