From Benched to Brilliant: The Triumph of William Troost-Ekong at AFCON and the Lessons for Overcoming Setbacks

Before the ongoing AFCON, many people needed more confidence in William Troost-Ekong playing in the central defense for Nigeria. Last year, there were times William was benched and never fielded. He was also dogged with injuries to the extent that he was not even called up to the national team at other times. Out of frustration, he almost quit the national team.

Sometimes, times and tides revolve around us. Only the strong, the clever, and the witty see opportunities in dire situations, grab them, and never let them slip by. This man came to AFCON and has conquered. He has converted all his penalties and has led with uncommon courage. He has also motivated the Nigerian team and led his side to concede only a few goals. What a record!

So, looking at what Ekong went through and almost giving up, what is it you are going through that is making you almost say, “Lord, I am tired. Just let me go.”

If William Troost-Ekong could bounce back to reclaim his shirt and Nigeria is not letting him go, why not you also believe that the momentary setbacks could be your golden bridge to a better tomorrow?
