From Naked Beginnings to Looming Ends: A Call for Compassionate Leadership
Life is but a looming end from that naked beginning in which we were delivered into this world. Curiously, nobody was wrapped in diamond apparel in a mother’s womb before birth. We were all born poor in nakedness, and every new day takes us closer to our end.
Just as we arrived in this world, our departure also signifies a form of poverty, poverty of companionship in loneliness, of communication with the living. In death, once vibrant and alive, our bodies succumb to the relentless march of time, gradually merging with the sands of eternity.
So, why do we carry on with the arrogance of one that would not die? Why do leaders who should protect the poor steal from them by looting the treasuries to make their future generations comfortable?
When people experiencing poverty continue to lament the deep pain they go through because of no potable water, no power to progress their vocations, no roads to transport their farm produce to the cities, and the produce gets destroyed, they resort to cursing the leaders and the country.
The worst is the curse of a dying person who cannot afford to buy medicine for a preventable disease. Sadly, these people are in their hundreds and thousands. Do we still wonder why we are not progressing, or do you think it doesn’t matter?
Today is another new day. Wherever God has placed you to lead others, thank God for a new beginning. If you can not return what you stole from those you serve, turn around and sin no more. Make a promise that as you resume work next week, you shall utilize government resources or other resources at your disposal for the country’s good.
Welcome to a new day. It is well with our souls. Grace and peace!!!
