Living a Life Worthy of Honest Eulogies: Reflections on the Deceit of Funeral Tributes

At some funerals, I have seen many people eulogized in their passing, which did not reflect the negative and heart-rendering testimonies of many in the crowd just because we believe one should speak no evil of the dead. Hearing the negatives on the one hand and the rubbing of oil on a supposedly inhuman character on the other hand, usually confuses one. But one thing is sure, we can deceive people, but we cannot deceive God.

I had long understood that life is like a book with many tragicomedies. One moment life is full of bouts of laughter and excitement. At other moments one faces severe adversities and turbulence to the point of shouting, “God, where are at thou?”

My admonition today is that whatever life throws at us in our terrestrial endeavors, let us try to live a life that would not warrant the officiating minister lying at our funeral to cover our terrible sides and paths on earth.

Grace and peace!!!
