Transformational Leadership: Embracing Hard Decisions for Future Growth

The hallmark of transformational leaders is the making of hard decisions. Such leaders are usually very unpopular until the seeds germinate many years later.

Some of the decisions that would change the culture and the structure of the living of a people could be very inconvenient and excruciatingly painful. During such times, the forces of the status quo will fight the forces of change. For example, implementing the Oronsaye report, which would have reduced about 263 statutory agencies to 161, abolishing 38 Federal Agencies, reversing 14 agencies to departments at the Federal level, and merging 52 institutions would have been carried out long ago. But the previous administrations, for political expediency, would rather not touch it with the longest spoon ever made.

If the federal government had implemented the report before now, it would have significantly reduced the federal government’s budget on overheads and spending if correctly done. No doubt there will be roadblocks because many of the agencies to be merged or scrapped are creations of the law. Would the National Assembly also be willing to step on the highly connected toes to consummate the transformation in the next few months? The future shall tell.

Grace and peace!!!
