A New Nigeria: How Regional Autonomy and True Federalism Can End Insecurity and Drive Development

Until those who want to impose their socio-religious ideologies on Nigeria repent or dealt with, the state of our insecurity, deprivation, underdevelopment will never change.

At this point, thinking of a very formal and legal autonomous regions in the cloak of true federalism should be the topmost priority of this government.

Let each region deal with their economies, health and educational infrastructures; religions, security, and cultures.

Let the regions prioritize what they want to focus on. Those that want to use all the money they earn from their resources to focus on religion, education, health, road infrastructures, human capital development, mineral resouces be allowed to concentrate on what shall benefit their people to do so.

I didn’t use to fancy state policing because state police in the hands of a parochial, tribal, arrogant, ruthless and careless governor will be lethal and dangerous. They will use it to suppress the voices of any opposition.

However, it stands to reason that each local government area in all the regions are in the best position to deal with community and grass root crimes. There are too many private armies in the country today that can transform into local or state security forces.

We can have regional and state security architectures and still have a central national security architecture that will protect the peoples of Nigeria from external agressions.

The way we are today puts so much stress on the people and the nation. Companies are being taxed and levied by the three tiers of government. No country can develop like this. Let each region set out its agenda and road maps to attract and keep investors. What we have today in so many states can not attract investors nor can they develop our economy.

We have so much nepotism, mediocrity, tribalism, religious bigotism in high places across the nation, which is fuelling our underdevelopment, which must be reversed urgently.

We do not have the luxury of time. Time to act is now. Grace and peace!!!
