Challenging Leadership: Critique or Betrayal?

No matter how highly placed, I would not encourage anybody to disobey court orders, talk less of disobeying the orders of the Supreme Court, which is at the apex of the judiciary.

However, I am not convinced that chiding Buhari over the Naira swap by the polemics of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and His Excellency Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, on their party’s policies, which have left Nigerians stranded on so many fronts, were done in good faith.

I opine that the Governors fighting against the federal government over the Naira crunch and policy are not defending the interest of the judiciary or the masses but that of themselves.

The masses know that some billions in N1,000 and N500 notes, which would have been used for their good, are still trapped in the chests and closets of some Governors and elites. They are lucky to have still the opportunities to deposit them in their accounts using specific CBN centers.

If I may ask, Where were the Gbajabiamilas and el-Rufais when security agencies were bursting Judges’ homes in the wee hours of the night, and one of the CJNs removed in a Gestapo manner?

I have always told people that someone could critique the leaders and organization their person works for, but never in the open. Therefore, be manly enough to resign and become a freelancer when led in the spirit to criticize your leader and organization openly.

On the issue under the radar, that is, the fuel and naira crunch, the duo cannot insulate themselves from the economic dysfunction confronting us as a people. Now, washing their hands off PMB and wanting to make him a political orphan cannot help to launder any of their images because they have been in this government for eight years as confidants of the President.

Besides, el-Rufai was a key member of the economic team of the Obasanjo era, heavily involved in the deregulation policies, and the helmsman at the BPE, which sold so many enterprises under the Obasanjo administration. To that effect, he is well-versed in what to do to turn the oil and gas sector around. So, if jointly they could not pressure the Federal Government to do something about the oil and gas, and the finance sector before now, they should accept the drawbacks as a collective failure just as they would ascribe to themselves the successes recorded in other areas by this administration.

When things go rocky, leaders should not be emersed in a blame game but unite to tackle the problem. Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and His Excellency Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, cannot insulate themselves from the negativism in and of today’s economic space.

For me, without any fear of contravention, I hold them jointly responsible for our travails because they are co-travelers with Mr. President and should not behave the ostrich.
