From Venezuela to Nigeria: The Rise of Non-State Actors and the Threat to National Stability

Venezuela’s experience showed that the more battered an economy is, the more the emergence of non-state actors, who in the end become more powerful than the state. Take a look at our country and check if there is any geo-political zone without individual army more powerful than the state.

Across the nation, our roads are littered with spike wielding men who should be engaged in decent jobs but enabled by the political class to harass petroleum tankers and trailers in the name of toll collection that ends up in private pockets.

Unfortunately, the young men used for the odd jobs have no pensionable future. What about the myriads of different armed multicolored uniforms littering the nooks and crannies of the country?

When a government by act of omission or commission surrenders its powers to non-state actors or individuals becoming more powerful than the state, it is a time bomb that could consume the entire populace. It is time to begin a roll back to avoid the impending catastrophe, which is not visible to many.

Grace and peace!!!
