Neglected Roads: The Perennial Plight of Nigerians During Rainy Seasons

Another rainy season is here. Nigerians traveling from the Southeast and the South-south regions through Delta and Edo States are once again welcomed to tearful and sorrowful road travels.

After the protests by the Edo people last year, the Edo State Government started to fix some failed portions of the Benin-Warri highway. The Federal Government (FG) allegedly stopped Obaseki contractors from fixing the failed portions because it is an FG project.

The consequences of not fixing the failed portions of the Benin-Ologbo axis are enormous economic losses to the nation, investors, and traders. We see daily occurrences of trucks flipping over, causing damage to lives and properties. These damaged trucks also cause hazards to road users, and commuters have nightmares traveling through that corridor.

How can this government watch us go through such harrowing pains for eight years and seems to be leaving us to continue with the suffering by the time it exits on May 29, 2023.? I do not think this is the best way the FG wants us to remember it—Diaris God oooo.
