Unlocking Nigeria’s Potential: Overcoming Challenges in the Energy Sector

Nigeria can supply finished alternative energy products to the rest of Africa. However, our albatross has been our overreliance on fossil fuels, corruption, bogus plans, non-implementation of strategic gas plans, rent-focused and entitlement-fixated mentality, and not taking our global investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector.

No oil and gas country that wants to remain competitive has ever witnessed the stealing of crude and damaging of oil and gas facilities the way of Nigeria. We are a decent people, but a handful of us have seriously punched holes in our economy and are still doing so. Companies are divesting to other smaller African nations. Whereas in the past, we had the luxury of dashing oil blocks as bonuses to friends and allies.

Now we need close to 1.9 trillion dollars to arrive at our net-zero emission target in 2060. Unfortunately, the largesse and handouts for oil explorations are drying up.

We can still salvage the sail from hitting the iceberg, and now is the time to thoroughly assess our strengths and weaknesses to overcome.

We shouldn’t continue the old ways. From the citizens up, we need a change of orientation to make it great again. Let’s go there!

Grace and peace!!!
